Jared Kushner reportedly praised the 'kind of badass' Bridgegate stunt

Jared Kushner, husband to Ivanka Trump and one of President-elect Donald Trump's key advisers, reportedly praised New Jersey's so-called Bridgegate scandal in a 2013 email to then-Port Authority official David Wildstein, who had just resigned over the stunt.

"Just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and wishing the best. For what it's worth, I thought the move you pulled was kind of badass," Kushner wrote in the Dec. 7, 2013, email, which was obtained by the Washington Post.

The "move" to which Kushner was referring is the apparently politically motivated 2013 lane closures on the George Washington Bridge that resulted in horrible traffic jams. Wildstein, along with two other aides to Gov. Chris Christie (R), a Trump supporter, were convicted earlier this year for the stunt, which caused massive problems for Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich (D), who had refused to endorse the Republican governor and whose town is at the foot of the bridge.

Kushner's father, Charles, was a Port Authority commissioner who resigned in 2003 amid questions about donations he had made to New Jersey Democrats that may have been in violation of conflict-of-interest laws. A spokesperson for Kushner Companies said the email was just a "poorly worded way of Jared trying to cheer up an old friend."

According to the New York Post, part of the reason Christie, who has long denied any involvement in the Bridgegate issue, was dropped from the Trump transition team was because of his connection to the political scandal.

"Trump thought it was shameful that Christie didn’t take the fall for [convicted aide] Bridget Kelly," an unnamed source close to the president-elect said earlier this month. "Trump is really angry that Christie is sending a soccer mom to jail. He believes 100 percent that Christie was behind it all."
