Tim Kaine's son arrested in riot at Trump protest

Linwood Michael Kaine, the son of former Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine was arrested at an anti-Trump protest in St. Paul, Minnesota, for allegedly participating in rioting.

The "March 4 Trump" rally was a part of a national demonstration in support of President Trump, but it turned violent in St. Paul, and police had to arrest several counter-protesters to keep the peace. Among those arrested was Linwood Kaine.

Linwood Michael Kaine, 24, and four others were arrested on suspicion of second-degree riot after the "March 4 Trump" rally in St. Paul; a sixth person was cited for disorderly conduct. Counter-protesters clashed with Trump supporters in the Capitol rotunda after they attempted to disrupt the proceedings with air horns, whistles and chants. At one point, someone set off a smoke bomb.

Linwood Kaine, a Carleton College graduate who lives in Minneapolis and goes by "Woody," was released from the Ramsey County jail on Tuesday morning pending further investigation, law enforcement officials said.

He and the others were released but face possible misdemeanor charges according to local authorities.

Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) released a statement supportive of his son's actions:

We love that our three children have their own views and concerns about current political issues. They fully understand the responsibility to express those concerns peacefully.

St. Paul police said that Linwood Kaine was arrested a block from the capitol with four people who were seen throwing fireworks at the protest. Police reported that they had to use "some force" to arrest him and take him into custody.

Social media captured some of the violence at the Trump rally in St. Paul:

Linwood, nicknamed "Woody," is one of three children of Tim Kaine and his wife, including sister Anella and Nat, who is a U.S. Marine.

[Ed. note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified Tim Kaine as the Senator of Maine. We regret the error.]
