Leaked texts from Justice Clarence Thomas' wife to Mark Meadows show her pushing for overturn of the election

Texts leaked from exchanges between the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas and Mark Meadows show that she was pushing for the overturn of the official results of the 2020 election.

The texts were turned over by Mark Meadows to the Jan. 6 Committee and leaked to CBS News and the Washington Post.

The texts show Virginia Thomas, also known as Ginni, sending messages to Meadows, who was the White House chief of staff at the time, encouraging Trump to fight the election results.

Not one of the texts directly referred to her husband, neither do they refer to the Supreme Court. None of the texts were sent on the day of the Jan. 6 rioting. 28 of the texts were sent in Nov. 2020, and one text was sent after the events of Jan. 6.

The leaked texts led to an online furor on the left demanding that Thomas recuse himself or even resign from the Supreme Court. Some referenced the Supreme Court case where Justice Thomas was the lone dissenting vote to allow Trump to shield his White House records from the Jan. 6 investigation.

Ginni Thomas, who is a longtime prominent conservative activist, did not respond to the release of her texts, but she issued a clarification of her acts on the day of the Jan. 6 rioting at the U.S. Capitol.

"Like so many married couples, we share many of the same ideals, principles, and aspirations for America," she said in the interview with the Washington Free Beacon. "But we have our own separate careers, and our own ideas and opinions too. Clarence doesn't discuss his work with me, and I don't involve him in my work."

She also said that while she attended the Jan. 6 protest, she left early because it was cold and did not participate in any of the planning for the event, as was claimed by some reports.

Justice Thomas was hospitalized on Friday with "flu-like symptoms," but he is expected to be released in a few days.
